MORE than 700 staff at Nottingham City Council have been told they are at risk of redundancy.

The council has sent letters to 720 workers who are being offered one-to-one interviews to discuss their position.

The city council is seeking to save £18 million in the coming financial year, to redirect spending towards children's services, adult social care, the authority's move to a new office, and replenishing run down reserves.

In total, 202 staff are expected to lose their jobs.

UNISON Regional Officer Peter Savage said: "It is clear these cuts will affect services and, at first glance, support to schools, children's centres, libraries and Trading Standards look badly hit. This is clearly not all back office jobs."

A 90-day consultation period will now begin with staff and unions.

    “Errrrmmmmmmm, Madbadger:

So, Bogush, your pensions were 'earned' on the backs of every consumer in the country!

    Past and present!

Not to mention those of other countries!

So if a peasant gives an artisan some of his crop in exchange for him building a hovel for him, so they both have a hovel to live in and some scraps of food to live on.

    That's:

'earned' on the backs of every consumer in the country!

    Past and present!

Not to mention those of other countries!

    .

But if the local Robber Baron makes them both work until they drop to provide half their produce to him and his cronies.

Perhaps in exchange for such "benefits" as a license to build their hovels or grow their crops.

Or other "benefits" such as keeping them safe by stopping them rushing backwards and forwards to try to produce enough to survive.

Or throwing any scraps they can't reuse into the right rubbish pit.

All for a fee, of course.

So that they can have a leasurely "working" life snooping on the peasant and the artisan, pushing bits of paper around, sending them more bills, and then spending the rest of the "working" day sat round a table chatting about how they are going to do the same tomorrow.

Oh, and telling the peasant and the artisan that they have to make a proper house and give more food then they have to that bloke that wandered in from the next village, whinging about how none of the other villagers liked him, even though he never had, and never would, contribute anything to their village.

And then stop "working" at 60.

But still get fed and clothed and housed better than the peasant and the artisan.

    That's your Socialist Paradise.

    .

Well, I'm sure it *is* *YOUR* "socialist" paradise!

    .

    Enjoy your retirement, MadBadger!
