4,000 noise complaints in Notts in one year

THERE have been more than 4,000 complaints about noise pollution in Notts in the last year.

The figures were released by Rockwool insulation company after a Freedom of Information Act request.

Of the 4,414 complaints, 2,038 were in the city council boundary.

There were 459 in Ashfield, 454 in Bassetlaw, 426 in Mansfield, 408 in Newark and Sherwood, 339 in Rushcliffe and 290 in Broxtowe.

In all there were 70 noise abatement notices served as a result of the complaints and 12 confiscations of equipment, including stereos, TVs and high performance speakers. There was also one asbo served.

Hans Schreuder Rockwool UK's managing director, said: "Noise concern is a key concern for residents in Notts.

"Many householders are relying on their local authority to take appropriate steps to protect their health.

"Living with stress is extremely stressful and can have a severe impact on an individuals' physical and psychological wellbeing."

Notts was far from the worst area for noise pollution. On average, 4 in of 1,000 residents complained, compared with 42 in the Westminster City Council boundary.

    “What do you expect when new housing is built so tightly packed into ghettos? Building standards are not as good as they should be, hence problems with noisy neighbours. Pack people tightly together, and they fall out. Its only human nature.”
