350 apply for just 50 jobs on Nottingham's trams
Nearly 350 people have applied for the first of up to 50 posts on Nottingham's new tram network.
Hundreds of jobs have already been created as part of a major expansion of the city’s tram network and new drivers are now required as the transport system continues to grow.

Nottingham's trams: A popular place to work
New trams will start to be delivered later this year and services will become more frequent ahead of the completion of two new lines to Chilwell and Clifton at the end of 2014.
Darren Smith, Acting Operations Manager at NET, said: “We were really pleased with the response to our recruitment campaign, and it’s heartening that so many people want to be part of this exciting project.”

From the initial applications, around 60 candidates attended two open days at Loxley House in Nottingham before 16 successful candidates were chosen.
“It was a difficult choice as the calibre of candidates was very high, but the people who really stood out were the ones that shared our commitment to delivering excellent customer service at all times,” Darren said.
“In the months ahead there will be even more opportunities to join the NET team. We’re looking forward to welcoming a lot of new recruits as we anticipate that approximately 40 to 50 new drivers will be required before the opening of the two new lines by the end of 2014,” he added.

“...trams will not be running once lines & stations & stops complete as roads will be in such a poor state no one will be able to get to the stations to use them...”

“theCLIFTONION – I love the way you have parodied the foolishness of the anti-tram brigade. There really will be some people out there who do not spot the flaw in your argument.”

“If the Tram extension to Clifton and Beeston is costing us in the region of £500 Million, and there are 50 new jobs to be created as a result, then.......let me think......No, don't rush me.....
I've got it!...., that makes the investment required for each job created to be in the region of £10 Million.
What a bargain!”

“Hackney
Maybe not to you but to the unemployed it's a big deal. Lose your job then you will realise how bad it is out there. Talks cheap”

“350 people applying for 50 jobs is surely nothing unusual. Although reading the story sounds to me there were only 16 vacancies anyway. Sometimes reading stories in the post leaves me confused.
Where do they get the people who write the stories ?
line one of this story
Nearly 350 people have applied for the first of up to 50 posts on Nottingham's new tram network.
Contradicts the headline straight away , so less than 50 jobs are on offer currently. Maybe the post should have a recruitment drive?”
