26,500 uninsured vehicles in Notts, new figures reveal
THERE were 26,500 uninsured vehicles being driven on Notts roads in 2009, according to new figures released by the Motor Insurers' Bureau.
The figure represents 3.25 per cent of the 820,000 vehicles registered in the county.
The national average is 4 per cent.
The figures show the number of uninsured drivers in the NG1 and NG7 postcode areas is more than twice the national average.
The insurers' bureau says the number of people driving without motor insurance has fallen by a fifth in the past four years.
Uninsured drivers across the UK kill 160 people and injure 23,000 people, costing insurers around £500 million and adding the equivalent of £30 to the cost of policies, according to the insurance industry.

“Surely to know the figure of uninsured vehicles being driven they must know who own them? If they know who they are have the Police feel their collar, fine the scumbags and ban them from driving and crush the car. Simples!
The post codes offer no surprise!”
