Fifty-nine operations were cancelled on the day and hospital documents revealed the main reason for this was a "clinical priority to other patients" followed by a lack of critical-care bed space.
Nottingham University Hospitals Trust has vastly reduced the number of operations it has to cancel after it was ranked as the worst performing trust in this area by the Department of Health – for cancelling 3,283 operations in the first six months of 2012.
