A BONE marrow drive in Calverton added 193 new names to the Bone Marrow Register.

Three-year-old Roman Cusick from the village needs a bone marrow match so he can be treated for leukaemia, which returned after he was in remission for two years

The drive at Calverton Miners' Welfare Club was the first time that the 'spit test', which uses saliva instead of a blood sample, has been used locally.

The campaign to find more bone marrow donors is backed by Ann-Marie Spence, mother of Joel Picker-Spence, six, from Farndon, who died from leukaemia in November 2008.

“A great turn out at Calverton despite the snow. Some people queued over an hour to join up. A big thank you to everyone who attended”
