1 in 116,531,800 chance
CASSEY Carrington and Matt Topham join a club of more than 20 British people who have won the EuroMillions jackpot since it was launched in 2004.
With their £45 million prize, the couple have become the second main prize-winners in Notts in the past month, and the tenth winners of the jackpot in the UK in the last year – out of the 24 winners.
The lottery is held across nine countries, including France, Spain and Austria, and the odds of matching five balls and two lucky stars stands at 1 in 116,531,800.
Professor Leighton Vaughan Williams, from the Nottingham Business School, said: "If you look at the population of Notts compared to the rest of the country, you see that if there is a winner in the UK, the chances of them coming from the county are about one in 60.
"But the odds of winning are still very slim, so to get two winners so close to one another is bizarre.
"The first win a couple of weeks ago will have given a boost to the area – people will have seen the publicity and think they might have a chance too."
Mr Vaughan Williams added: "Lightning can strike twice, as we have seen here, and could even strike for a third time."
