Hundreds more job cuts at county council
AROUND 900 more jobs are likely to be axed at Notts County Council beyond next year, it has emerged.
The authority – which is already looking to axe 470 positions to balance next year's budget – says there are likely to be further cuts "over the next two to three years at similar level to 2010/11".
-

It means the total number of positions to be axed could potentially reach around 1,400.
Labour leader Coun Alan Rhodes said he was "staggered" by the cuts.
"The situation has just gone from bad to worse," he said.
The figure was highlighted yesterday during a budget briefing between opposition councillors and County Hall officers.
Tim Gregory, director of corporate services, said that the council's position had been included in a report to a cabinet meeting which is scheduled for November 18.
When asked for comment last night, council leader Coun Kay Cutts said: "It is all in the cabinet report. I have nothing to add."
The council says it needs to save £85m in the next three years to meet the increasing costs of an aging population and child protection, as well as to keep a Conservative pledge for a zero per cent council tax increase.

“B J Mann, seriously, stop posting on here. I hate the fact you are pompous/arrogant AND really not very bright.
You think you are making really clever witty points of searing clarity (as shown by your use of "Errmmmm" which is hilarious, because your points are always rubbish) whereas in actual fact they don't even usually address the points you are trying to prove wrong.
I've never hated anyone so much that I have never met.
You are the merde on my shoe.”

“"Actually, the real reason is Brown, back in 1997, loosening supervison of the banks, and encouraging a credit fuelled feel-good boom."
Except for the fact that was Thatcher, promoting people buying their own homes.
And if Brown did deregulate, he did so under the chearleadership of Cameron.
Who is now trying to make himself look tough!
By hitting the ordinary bank workers!
Who the recession cannot be blaimed on!
Fair isn't it?”

“Errrmmmmmmmmmmmmm:
Hmm, how odd then that the last CPA assessment of NCC has as its opening words "Overall, the Council is performing well.
Or to put it another way, there are slightly fewer bad points than good ones.
Whereas for the money we pay, they should *ALL* be *GREAT* !
.
To address your summary "quote" specifically, the counciul could be ratead as:
1 ¿ below minimum requirements ¿ inadequate performance
2 ¿ at only minimum requirements ¿ adequate performance
3 ¿ consistently above minimum requirements ¿ performing well
4 ¿ well above minimum requirements ¿ performing strongly
It scored a 3 because it got mainly 3's on things like what it's goals and ambitions were, how well it prioritisation them, and even on what it's capacity to achieve them was.
But, unfortunately, it scored a 2 - "at only minimum requirements" (which for some strange reason equates to "adequate performance") on *Performance* *management* !!
.
Oh, and to achieve it's scores, it only needs to get a 3 in some areas, and nothing below a 2.
So the whole scoring system is designed to ramp up the results.
And they *STILL* couldn't get into the top group despite having been amongst the highest council tax levyers!

“Errrmmmmmmmmmmmmm, Mr Stupid:
A bit rich isn't that Wurrows?
Coming from the person who calls people who doesn't agree with him morons...
I like to think I don't dip to those kind of levels!
Oh the irony...
Mr. Sensible, The Real World
Oh, the irony!
I suppose your use of "Mr Sensible, The Real World", is ironic?
And intended to highlight your recognition of the fact that it is the people who disagree with you who are grounded in the real world, and being sensible.
Ever wondered *WHY* people call you a *MORON* ?!

“Agree with you Mr Sensible but seeing as it appear to be lets knock the public sector afternoon on here I just thought it would be nice to remind everyone that one of the reasons we're in this mess is Private Sector incompetance mainly through the banks that had little to do with nulabour and everything to do with greed.
Actually, the real reason is Brown, back in 1997, loosening supervison of the banks, and encouraging a credit fuelled feel-good boom.
Even going so far as to encourage 50% of our youth to, not only take out loans to live off, instead of going on the dole, but even taking out more loans to boost the education, education, education sector of public "services"!
.
And as for people getting vast salaries and pensions for non jobs that wrecked the economy.............

“It is all about balancing the books and nothing else. If my employers or any others employers acted in such a way the company would end up bankrupt and disappear owing debts, the debts ridden company would go into administartion or receivership. Higher levels of management could be held legally liable for any mismanagement so why have those in the council not been held accountable, its certainly been criminal.”

“On second thoughts, everybody does NOT pay council tax. Maybe those who get it fully funded are the loudest to complain of lower taxes, because they don't pay any!”

“The plain fact is that ALL councils are going to have great difficulty in balancing the books to pay for all the Labour government -imposed improvement to services without financing them. Nottinghamshire is in more trouble than most owing to the last Labour administration spending money as if it was going out of fashion. I would hope that many of the jobs will be lost due to natural wastage. By the way, everyone pays council tax, not just the rich.”

“Chickens coming home to roost is the immediate saying which springs to mind, and now those chickens are coming home to roost.
Under this Tory administration we have seen money squandered left, right, and centre; new cabinet posts created, offices elaborately redecorated, substantial amounts lost on removing windows etc.
Now its time for the people of Nottinghamshire to pay the price. Each person out of work means less spent in local shops which in turn means businesses down the drown and less contribution to local rates. This then necessities higher council tax from individuals.
When the Tories were last in Government we had interest rates of 15% and mass unemployment. This is just a little taster for Nottinghamshire.”
